Control Air Conditioning with KNX

Integrating KNX air conditioning with KNX is a simple process given the wide-ranging interface options from Intesis and Zennio. Another key benefit is the ability to hide, or even remove, the original AC keypad. There is also less need for additional logic to connect two systems together.

There are two primary methods of connection; Interfacing directly to the internal units or using a system gateway between the AC system and KNX. Both present full bi-directional control of fan speed and direction, vane, mode and offer feedback.

When checking for compatibility on the manufacturer provided chart it is the model number of the internal unit that is referenced.

KNX room controllers generally have multiple stages of control, meaning the AC can be used in combination with other heating and cooling sources and as there is one controller the need for an AC interlock is removed.

In its simplest form, the room controller provides the set point and current room temperature to the AC unit then the cooling or heating value object turns the unit on or off. In this way the AC unit will be using its internal logic to work out the required air temperature given the difference between the target temperature and set point.

If a higher level of control or fully manual control is required then an external logic module can be used to set specific modes and fan speed.
